Mitch Evans has learned from critical past mistakes when it comes to fighting for a Formula E drivers' title, with him not allowing himself to "fixate on it too much".
The New Zealander has soared into title contention following victory in the second race of the recent Berlin E-Prix from 17th on the grid, moving him to within three points of Pascal Wehrlein.
Evans' win came just a matter of days after it was officially announced that he will leave Jaguar at the end of the season, bringing a 10-year partnership to an end.
Almost every box has been ticked between the pair, except one: a drivers' title. He has come bitterly close on multiple occasions, with Evans often referring to himself as always the bridesmaid and never the bride.
With nine rounds remaining, starting in Monaco this weekend, the 31-year-old has yet another chance to finally become world champion.
Evans has already accumulated two wins and a further two rostrums from eight races, form which should see him fight for the title. However, unlike in the past, he is ensuring he does not think about the crown too much.
Asked if his belief is increasing that a title is possible this season, Evans told RacingNews365: "Yeah, I think so. But you've got these guys [Wehrlein and Rowland] scoring big as well. So every time you have a big result, there's someone else having a big result with you who's kind of, let's say, in the fight right now.
"But yeah, I think I've mentioned before that I'm just kind of taking each race as it comes and just optimising things. As in, I just want to keep accumulating as many points as I can and see where we end up, rather than fixating on it too much.
"I've done that in the past, and I don't think that really helps. So the main thing is that we're in the fight and executing in the races where the points are on offer. So we need to keep that up.
"But it'd be nice to have a few poles and duel appearances, just to have that strength there as well when we need it."
