Mercedes will introduce a "whole bunch" of upgrades to the W14 in upcoming races, as they look to close the gap to Red Bull. The team introduced an important upgrade package in Monaco aimed at curing the problems with getting the car in the right setup window, which team boss Toto Wolff described as "poisonous." While it has yet to digest much of the data it received from the race, they are pressing ahead with their upgrades planned for the next few races that will take place in Europe according to Technical Director, James Allison. "We certainly will settle back and look at what the Monaco upgrade package has brought us at a more normal track, but we will also push on in parallel with a whole bunch of more things," said Allison in the Mercedes Strategy Debrief video. "There will be a little bit we are bringing to Barcelona and many more things in the races that follow. We can't afford just to do everything sequentially, although there is a sort of academic purity to that, it's just too slow a way of going ahead."
Allison: Upgrades will keep coming
Mercedes ditched their zero sidepod design in favour of a more conventional arrangement, which exploits a key area in the ride height setup of the car . Allison said the team has a "decent package" to build upon with more updates coming up to the summer break at the beginning of August. He added: "The upgrades will keep coming, we hopefully have a decent package to build upon with what we put on the track in Monaco, and then we just step forward from here up to the summer break and beyond." Having elected to "forget" about the updates in Monaco the team will focus more on the changes in Barcelona, which should provide a better baseline for performance.
