Mercedes narrowly edge Ferrari in Max Verstappen future hope

F1 fans would like to see Max Verstappen join Mercedes over Ferrari if the four-time drivers' champion decides to leave Red Bull.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with a move away from the Milton Keynes-based team for the past year, and Mercedes has long been considered his most likely landing spot.

With Red Bull having fallen from its perch and struggling to keep pace with the leading trio of the eight-time constructors' champions, the Scuderia, and McLaren, the noise around Verstappen's F1 future has been amplified.

Toto Wolff has long admired the 71-time grand prix winner, after missing out on his signature at the start of his career, but some, such as David Coulthard, believe Ferrari would be a better option.

Interestingly, in the recent poll conducted by RacingNews365, almost double the percentage of respondents would like to see Verstappen join Aston Martin — amid the Silverstone squad's current misfortune — than follow race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase to the reigning constructors' champions.

Either way, if the 28-year-old were to make himself available, he would not be short of suitors.
