Mercedes have began their second day of testing at Imola as part of Pirelli's preparation to introduce the bigger 18 inch tyres to Formula 1 in 2022. Lewis Hamilton was at the wheel of the Mercedes on Tuesday, completing 130 laps to gather plenty of data for Pirelli. Valtteri Bottas is currently driving 2019 W10 Mercedes which has been turned into a mule car which can run the 18 inch tyres.
Pirelli are set to conduct 25 days of tyre testing this year with every team apart from Williams testing the 2022 compounds. Ferrari and Alpine have already tested the new rubber in Jerez and Bahrain as Mercedes conclude their testing today. Alpine will again test the tyres again on May 11 at Barcelona along with Red Bull and Alfa Romeo, after the Spanish Grand Prix.

Today it's the very first time for @ValtteriBottas to test the #Fit4F1 18-inch prototype tyres for next year with @MercedesAMGF1 at @autodromoimola circuit. For all the meteorologists out there, it's sunny, 18 degrees ambient and 27 degrees on track. pic.twitter.com/cFNbnezun5 — Pirelli Motorsport (@pirellisport) April 21, 2021
