George Russell and Carlos Sainz have been in action at Silverstone, completing the first of a two-day Pirelli tyre test.
The Italian manufacturer is looking at finalising the structure of its dry-weather tyres ahead of 2027, with this required to be soon owing to construction times.
A specification freeze also exists in the regulations, by September 1st.
After a morning of "screening runs", the afternoon shifted to "promising solutions" for long runs, in track temperatures of 46 degrees Celsius.
Russell clocked 113 laps for 665km of running with a best lap of 1:30.695, which was faster than the fastest lap in Sunday's race, a 1:31.777.
Sainz covered 61 laps with a best of 1:33.567 as a technical problem limited his running.
On Wednesday, Kimi Antonelli and Alex Albon will take over driving duties.
During such tests, drivers and teams are blind to what is being tested, with Pirelli dictating run plans and fuel loads.
They effectively 'hire' an F1 team for the test, with no upgrades allowed to be tested on the cars.
