Lando Norris’ difficult Canadian Grand Prix came to an abrupt end after he suffered a mechanical failure midway through the race.
Much of Norris’ race was compromised when McLaren elected to start both the reigning world champion and team-mate Oscar Piastri on intermediate tyres.
The strategy quickly proved unsuccessful, with both drivers forced to switch to slick tyres and dropping out of contention at the front of the field.
Norris fought his way back into the points and was running eighth on lap 40 when his race unravelled.
A terminal mechanical issue struck his car, accompanied by a loud and concerning noise, before Norris pulled into a run-off area and retired from the race.
The McLaren driver joined a growing list of retirements, and moments later Sergio Perez was also forced out after suffering a dramatic suspension failure while returning to the pit lane.
