Zak Brown believes McLaren has achieved their 'high of the season' after achieving a front row start with Lando Norris at the British Grand Prix. The team had a difficult start to the season after they admitted they missed their pre-season development targets, resulting in Technical Director James Key leaving the team. McLaren introduced their first big car upgrades in Austria with a raft of parts for the MCL60 including new sidepods, floor, and engine cover. They also brought a new front wing this weekend for Norris' car, while Oscar Piastri got the updates from Austria. The CEO said the efforts of the team to bring the updates forward has enabled them to achieve their first front row start since 2021. "This is just the hard work of Andrea [Stella] and everyone at McLaren, all the men and women back at the factory, at the track, the upgrades are working, the teams executing, the drivers are driving," Brown told Sky Sports . "We got to take the highs and the lows, and this is certainly the high of the season and we'll see what happens tomorrow."
Brown: Our season started in Austria
McLaren suffered one of the worst starts to a season in the history of the team in 2023, with the team only amassing 29 points so far in the Constructors Championship. "I feel like our season got started in Austria, which is a little late because everyone else showed up in in Bahrain," said Brown. "But still a long way to go and feels like we have good momentum." Brown added that the team had doubts about whether they could continue their momentum from Austria, but their top five qualifying at Silverstone is validation of those efforts. "Austria were always strong, then the data showed it definitely worked. But then you do start to wonder 'Is it tracks specific?' "To be able to validate it with the second car and at another track, definitely means the upgrade is a nice step forward."
