Max Verstappen set for another Red Bull update boost in late F1 title push

Max Verstappen is poised to receive another upgrade to his Red Bull in a bid to maintain his late-season challenge to McLaren in his fight to land a fifth consecutive F1 drivers' title.

Verstappen's RB21 was blessed with updates ahead of the recent Italian and Singapore Grands Prix, notably a new floor ahead of the race at Monza that provided the car with aero grip and balance previously missing during a mid-season slump.

The Dutch driver stunned McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris by claiming pole and race win in Italy and the subsequent race in Azerbaijan, before finishing second behind Mercedes' George Russell in Singapore, where the car had a new front wing.

Verstappen currently trails Piastri by 63 points and Norris by 41, with 174 still available from the final six grands prix and three sprints.

Crucially for Red Bull, it is also in the hunt for second place in the constructors' championship as it is 35 points behind Mercedes and only eight adrift of Ferrari.

Red Bull technical director Pierre Waché has confirmed to RacingNews365 that further changes are due on the car.

"We will have other stuff coming," said Waché. "Not the next grand prix, maybe a little bit later.

"Clearly, the constructors' championship is not finished for us. It's very important.

"With the philosophy of this team, with every race we participate in this championship, we never give anything away."

Red Bull strike a compromise

Red Bull currently has a clear advantage over McLaren in that it is developing its car so late in the season, despite the focus on the new regulations for next year.

McLaren, in contrast, is no longer upgrading its MCL39, resulting in a noticeable dip in performance compared to Red Bull over the last three grands prix, with even Mercedes able to join the fight at the front given George Russell's win in Singapore.

As to why Red Bull was still developing now, Waché added: "We compromised a little bit at the beginning of the year.

"But with the way we work, every time it's like that. We're a little late in development, a little late finalising the next car. It's the way our system works, and we take the benefit of it this year.

"We are maybe a little different to others in the way we work, but we have very good capacity internally in terms of manufacturing. It's what we are good at."

As to whether there would be any impact on next year's car with the ongoing development, Waché replied: "I don't think so.

"Just to make clear, what we have now and what we have a little bit later are developed a long time in advance. It's not like from yesterday."
