Max Verstappen has outlined that his crucial responsibility of delivering Red Bull clear feedback is "even more important" this season, as F1 enters its new power unit regulations.

The sport has undergone the biggest regulations change in its history, with the power unit to consist of a 50/50 split between electrical power and internal combustion.

This challenge is heightened for Red Bull, who for the first time in its F1 history has produced its own power unit.

It represents a period of great unknown for the Milton Keynes-based outfit, with the entire grid having huge questions over the new regulations.

Asked what intrigues him the most about the new regulations, Verstappen told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Everything to do with the engine.

"It will be new for everyone, but for us in particular, as we go from customer to constructor of the power unit in collaboration with Ford.

"It has been interesting to follow the change of the team. Now I'm just waiting for the moment when I can drive the car to understand how these cars will be on the track, hoping they will provide fun."

Verstappen's 2026 prediction

As is typically the case at the start of a new regulations cycle, Verstappen expects to see potentially two teams with a significant early advantage.

The four-time world champion is hopeful that whichever team has the initial package to beat will be caught quickly.

"At the beginning the difference between the teams will be very big, that is always the case when new rules are introduced in Formula 1," added Verstappen.

"There will be one or two teams that start much better than the others, and then over time it will become more equal. The hope is that a balanced situation can emerge fairly quickly."

A crucial factor this season given the new technologies introduced to F1 is driver feedback, with those who deliver most accurate information likely to make gains sooner.

"I think a lot of adaptability and responsiveness will be required from the driver," Verstappen said.

"By giving precise answers and directions, saying clearly what you like and what exactly is not going well. It's a process I'm used to, but it will be even more important with the new regulations."
