Max Verstappen offers sharp and unusual Christian Horner book 'review'

Max Verstappen was in no mood to answer questions about his former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner's recently released autobiography during media day at the Circuit of the Americas.

Max Verstappen said he does not read books when asked for his thoughts on Christian Horner's autobiography Drive, released earlier this week.

Verstappen skirted around the question, providing a sassy response before revealing he had no intention of digging up — or addressing — the past, following the publication of the former Red Bull team principal's reflections on his time in motorsport.

Unsurprisingly, the four-time F1 drivers' champion features numerous times, given the success he shared with Horner.

However, the 29-year-old was uninterested in correcting or validating the record, ignoring the suggestion that long-time ally Helmut Marko opposed his promotion to Red Bull from Toro Rosso in 2016.

Asked whether he or his father, former F1 driver Jos Verstappen, had read the book and what his thoughts on the contents were, the Dutchman was in no mood to entertain the question.

"Why me and my dad? Not my mum or my sister?" Verstappen quipped back to media, including RacingNews365.

Put to him that it is because Verstappen and his father are both referenced quite a bit, he responded, "Because we've worked together for a very long time, right?"

Addressing the question fully, he said: "Well, I haven't read the book. I don't read books, to be honest, myself.

"But also, for me, there is also no need for me to sit here and say, 'Well, this is correct; that's not correct; I think this; I've seen differently'.

"Those things have all happened in the past. We've had a great time all together, right? I mean, our relationship has lasted for such a long time together working here. But for me, what is now very important is what is happening right now, here."

Where Verstappen's attention really lies

Building on his eyes-forward mentality, Verstappen underlined his main desire to enjoy racing and tackle the immediate tasks at hand, continuing his race-winning form and returning to title contention next season.

"I'm focusing on this weekend. I'm focusing on next year. I'm having a good time within the team," he added, as he prepares to attempt to take victory for the third successive grand prix.

"Over time, of course, yeah, people have changed; they have come and gone. But for me, there is no need to try and explain everything here again, from my side, from what I know has happened in the past or not.

"I'm just looking into the future and just enjoying my time racing."
