Max Verstappen learns fate after stewards’ investigation into weird Red Bull error

Max Verstappen was called to the FIA officials in Budapest after a bizarre incident during FP2 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The stewards at the Hungarian Grand Prix have given Red Bull a warning for a strange incident during FP2 involving a towel being left in Max Verstappen's car.

The Dutchman was seen throwing the white, Red Bull-branded cloth out of his RB21 cockpit at the exit of Turn 3 during the second hour of running at the Hungaroring.

Following what appeared to have been a mistake in leaving the towel in the car, the four-time F1 drivers' champion was promptly noted by the officials, before it was moved up to a full post-session investigation for his car being released in an unsafe condition.

After Verstappen rid himself of the towel, it then sat on the circuit for the remainder of the second free practice hour.

The stewards decided against punishing the team or driver because a cleaning cloth is not a "hard object" and is therefore less dangerous.

In the official decision document, they explained why it was mitigated down to a warning, with Verstappen himself later providing greater clarity on how taking no action would have been more "dangerous".
