Max Verstappen has voiced his desire to make changes to his Red Bull car overnight after enduring a major struggle during qualifying for the British Grand Prix.

Red Bull was unable to pull itself into the pole position fight on Saturday, with Kimi Antonelli soaring to his fifth pole of the year.

Verstappen ended the session in seventh place and was out-qualified by team-mate Isack Hadjar, who powered himself to fifth on the starting grid.

The Dutchman highlighted that the team struggled to pull its car balance away from the limitations that appeared on Friday.

“The balance wasn’t right to begin with,” Verstappen told select media including RacingNews365.

"It wasn’t good on Friday either, so in that regard, it stayed the same. But we also lacked top speed. We were lagging behind a bit throughout the entire qualifying session.

“Then, of course, you use up more battery power because you’re going full throttle for longer. In the final sector, it’s a complete disaster."

Verstappen's concerns extended to the power unit, which he believes will leave him vulnerable down the straights during the race.

“We tried, but in terms of setup, it didn’t really improve anything,” he said.

“On the straights, for some reason, there was something wrong with the engine. That’s obviously my biggest concern for the race.”

Verstappen added that he is eager to make changes to his car overnight and completely revamp his set-up.

However, doing so would breach parc fermé conditions, relegating him to the pit lane for the start of the grand prix.

“I’d love to [make changes],” he stated. “If you start here, you’re going to keep driving it anyway. You’ll even drop more spots.

“In that regard, I’d rather we make some adjustments. The engine just isn’t running right. We were too slow on every straight.

"On a track like Silverstone, it’s obviously extra painful when you don’t have top speed.”
