Max Verstappen came agonisingly close to capturing victory in the Nürburgring 24 Hours over the weekend at what would have been the first time of asking.
The four-time F1 drivers' champion has impressed the world of sports car racing since his first foray last year and is keen to garner more endurance experience in the future, including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Ford, which is the power unit partner of Red Bull in Formula 1, has expressed its desire to see the Dutchman behind the wheel of the American marque's Hypercar down the road.
And, according to motorsport fans, almost 90 per cent would like to see that come to fruition, as shown in a recent poll conducted by RacingNews365.
If and when it happens remains to be seen, but with Verstappen looking increasingly likely to expand his repertoire — either whilst still an F1 driver or afterwards — it appears much more realistically a when, not an if at this stage.
