Helmut Marko has raised a theory that F1 teams have scrutinised Red Bull's trick device to "divert attention from other problems".
Red Bull has come under fire ahead of this weekend's United States Grand Prix from Austin, Texas for accepting it has a device which can alter the ride height of the RB20 between qualifying and the race.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has called for the FIA to investigate the device which adjusts the front bib clearance, something he judges as being "highly illegal".
However, according to Marko, the governing body has been aware of the device before the initial reports ahead of this weekend's trip to the Circuit of the Americas as he played down the significance of the trick.
"The system is perfectly legal and was known to all the teams," Marko told Sky F1 Italy. "We had already informed the FIA about it, that says it all.
“You cannot change the ride height level between qualifying and the race. That’s the main thing, there’s nothing illegal.
"The FIA already knew. There was no sanction, nothing has changed compared to before. I don’t understand all the chatter about it. Maybe someone wants to divert attention from other problems."
Red Bull currently sit 41 points behind McLaren in the constructors' championship while Max Verstappen boasts a 52-point lead over Lando Norris.
