In a huge shock, Jaguar has announced that its Formula E team principal James Barclay will leave the team at the end of the season.

Barclay will not only leave the reigning champion's, he will leave the manufacturer completely on August 1 after the season-ending London E-Prix.

He has been with the organisation for 12 years and led Jaguar to its first world title since 1991. In addition, Barclay has played a key role in Defender entering the Dakar Rally and the world rally raid championship.

Barclay is one of the most recognisable and likeable characters in the FE paddock and was heavily involved in Jaguar entering the all-electric series in 2016.

A Jaguar statement read: "JLR can confirm that James Barclay has decided to leave his role as Managing Director JLR Motorsport and Team Principal of Jaguar TCS Racing, effective from 01 August 2025, to pursue an exciting role outside our business.

"James has been an integral member of the JLR leadership team since he joined the company in 2013. Among many significant accomplishments during his time at JLR, last year, James sensationally led Jaguar TCS Racing to Jaguar’s first world championship win since 1991.

"More recently, James has been instrumental in establishing the programme which will see Defender enter as a factory team into the Dakar Rally and FIA World Rally Raid Championship from 2026. James will continue is his current role leading the JLR Motorsport function until 01 August."

Despite substantial success during the Gen3 era, it has been a disappointing start to Gen3 EVO for the Big Cat.

Whilst Mitch Evans heroically won the São Paulo season-opener from last on the grid, it has been a poor season to-date for Jaguar who continue to face issues with its package.

Following the Miami E-Prix, Jaguar sit eighth in the teams' championship on just 35 points.
