Mahindra has officially committed to Formula E until at least the end of 2030, with the manufacturer set to continue in the championship into Gen4.
The Indian manufacturer, which has been in the category since the very beginning, is the last of the current manufacturers in the championship to announce its commitment to Gen4, which will be introduced at the end of 2026 for Season 13.
Until Wednesday morning’s announcement in Bangalore, India, Mahindra had remained very quiet on the matter of Gen4, with team principal Fred Bertrand having given very few details away.
It means Formula E now has six committed manufacturers for Gen4: Porsche, Nissan, Jaguar, Stellantis, Lola and Mahindra.
For a long period, it was looking possible that Mahindra could become a customer team for Gen4; however, its return to regular podium finishes last season acted as a significant boost.
Mahindra also showed excellent pace in pre-season testing last month in Valencia, and are expected to be strong next weekend in the São Paulo season-opener.
Both Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara are entering the final season on their contracts with the Banbury-based outfit, although with Mahindra's commitment to Gen4 official, securing its drivers will likely be the next step.
Mahindra was absent from the first private manufacturers Gen4 test, potentially putting it behind its opposition ahead of Formula E's new era. However, significant time remains to catch up.
"I’m delighted to share this announcement that Mahindra Racing will remain in Formula E as a manufacturer for the GEN4 era," said Bertrand. "As a team, we have been on a fantastic journey over the past two seasons.
"What we have built and achieved as a group has been exceptional, and with this announcement, we now have the platform to keep growing and developing and achieve even greater success in the future.
"None of this would be possible without our colleagues across the Mahindra Group. They have bought into the project and the vision, and we will keep working hard to not only make India proud but also showcase exactly why it has the potential to be a major player on the world stage in the automotive and technology industries.
"Their enthusiasm to ‘Scream Electric’ is hugely inspiring to the whole team, and we will continue to represent them with pride in this next exciting chapter of our Formula E story in the coming years."
