Magnussen confirms talks ongoing to save F1 career

Kevin Magnussen will leave the Haas F1 team at the end of the current campaign - but the Dane is hopeful he will remain in F1 next year.

Kevin Magnussen has confirmed he is in talks with other F1 teams over a seat on the grid for next season.

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Haas announced it will part ways with the Dane at the end of the ongoing campaign.

Magnussen first linked up with Haas in 2017 and drove for four seasons before being dropped for the 2021 campaign. However, he returned one year later, spending another three years with the American team.

His last entry with Haas is set to be the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November - however, the 31-year-old is hopeful it will not be his final race in F1

When asked if he is in talks with other F1 teams for 2025, Magnussen told media including RacingNews365: “Yeah I am. Definitely.”

With Haas opting to end the long-standing partnership, Magnussen highlighted he holds no harsh feelings.

“I don't think you always you don't need to understand to agree,” he said. “It's F1 - things happen and you move on.

“You can look at these drivers coming in and you think 'are they better than me or not?'

“It doesn't really matter because it's a fact that they're racing. That's the way it is.”

Magnussen admits Haas stay 'would have been cool'

Following a difficult run of seasons, Haas has enjoyed a step forward this year, scoring points on several occasions.

Although he is content with the decision Haas has made, Magnussen admits he would have liked to continue his journey with the team amid its upward trajectory.

“I think had it continued, it would have been cool to see the fruits of the momentum that have been built here recently.

“That would have been interesting. But I think there are also other interesting projects out there. [There are] still seats available in F1 that could be interesting.

“And of course, there's Carlos [Sainz] still holding up all that process, but eventually it's going to move.

“So right now, I think the best thing is just to focus on doing good races, and then I'll be in contention for the seats available, and things will fall into place eventually.”
