Liam Lawson told of 'biggest problem' in Red Bull second chance

Former F1 driver Anthony Davidson has outlined the “biggest problem” facing Liam Lawson as he looks to impress Red Bull this weekend.

The New Zealander has been called up to replace an injured Isack Hadjar at the Dutch Grand Prix, with Yuki Tsunoda filling in for Lawson at Racing Bulls.

It marks Lawson's second opportunity with Red Bull, having endured a disastrous opening two rounds with the team in 2025.

By contrast, Hadjar has impressed during his maiden season with the team this year with a consistent run of point-scoring finishes.

As Lawson looks to impress at the second time of asking, Davidson detailed that nothing he does will erase the form Hadjar has produced.

“The biggest problem for Lawson is Isack Hadjar,” Davidson said. 

“He's been doing an incredible job this season alongside Max. It's exactly what the team wanted in Milton Keynes. 

“Lindblad has driven an exceptionally well year so far this season as a rookie, as Hadjar did last year.

“That really is Lawson's biggest problem. I feel like he can do whatever he wants in many ways from a team's point of view this weekend and you still can't undo the work that Hadjar has done.”

The length of Lawson's stint at Red Bull is not yet known, however Hadjar is targeting a return at the following round in Italy, according to reports.

Instead of attempting to convince Red Bull his worthy of a seat, Davidson summarised that the coming weekend is more of a personal desire for Lawson.

“For me, I would see this as just personal satisfaction for Lawson if he has a good weekend,” he said.
