Liam Lawson has explained how he initially feared he would not race in the Monaco Grand Prix he finished fifth following finding his car in "a million pieces."
Prior to the start, with the New Zealander due to start in ninth place, Racing Bulls had the car up on the jacks in the garage to fix a technical issue, with time tight before the pit-exit closing, which would have consigned him to a pit-lane start.
Ultimately, Lawson was able to finish sixth on the road, which became fifth once Pierre Gasly's speeding penalties were applied to record fifth place - equalling his career-best finish from the 2025 Azerbaijan GP, in the 250th start by a New Zealander.
Reflecting, Lawson thanked his team for their efforts.
"I walked over to the garage and saw the car was in a million pieces, and I thought I wasn't racing today," Lawson reflected to media, including RacingNews365.
"So it was a big turnaround, and a massive thank you to the guys and girls for putting it together and getting us out on track.
"We were managing the Williams behind, and had quite a bit of pace, which was nice.
"So we just extended [our stint] and gave ourselves a gap and boxed when we needed to, and then obviously the red flag meant that we had both cars in a great position for the restart, and then to bring them home in this order."
