Liam Lawson has revealed how he was "just trying to survive" the opening laps of the Miami GP and trying to "chase" the car.
From 11th on the grid, Lawson had an eventful afternoon in Miami with a first-lap squirmish with Max Verstappen in which the Red Bull forced the Racing Bulls off the track, but with Lawson being instructed to hand the position back.
On Lap 6, just as Pierre Gasly was overtaking into Turn 17, the Racing Bulls machine suffered a gearbox failure, pitching Lawson into the side of Gasly, who flipped over and came to rest askew against the TecPro barrier.
Recalling his afternoon, Lawson felt the weekend could be summed up as the team simply not being "quick enough" throughout as it came away point-less.
"I was just trying to survive the first lap, and we weren't quick enough," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.
"We weren't quick enough in general in the first couple of laps, and I already knew that we had quite a bad balance and we were trying to chase it.
"But it wasn't enough, and we just weren't quick enough this weekend.
"So it is definitely to be reviewed, and we have a lot of stuff coming through the year, which is positive, but everybody else has as well, so we need to make bigger steps."
