Liam Lawson handed 'brilliant job' verdict in tough Racing Bulls battle

Liam Lawson is the experienced driver in the Racing Bulls camp this season, despite still being relatively inexperienced himself.

Former F1 driver David Coulthard has praised Liam Lawson for doing a "brilliant job" so far this season, given that he is alongside a "brilliant young talent" in Arvid Lindblad.

Both Racing Bulls drivers have made strong starts to the campaign, with Lawson scoring 28 points and Lindblad 13.

For Lawson, the New Zealander has found himself as the experienced driver within the Faenza-based outfit, despite only being in his second season as a full-time F1 driver.

He has already excelled, becoming a regular presence in the final part of qualifying, and has often finished as the leading midfield driver.

Sixth place in Monaco represents his best result of the 2026 season so far, with the 23-year-old displaying remarkable consistency. That has been a challenge for Lawson in the past, highlighting his genuine progress.

At a time when Lawson must perform to justify his place at Red Bull's sister team, he is doing exactly that.

Coulthard has enjoyed watching Racing Bulls in action, particularly as Lawson and Lindblad continue to push each other.

Addressing Racing Bulls' form, Coulthard said on the Up to Speed podcast: "Yeah, I think that again we're in a position where we have to comment on the results, and there were moments where Liam felt that, as the more experienced guy, you would expect him to be, let's say, leading the way, but it seems to have settled down.

"We can accept that Arvid is a brilliant young talent. Therefore, Liam is doing a brilliant job as well, because they're both like this, aren't they?

"They're both pushing each other on, not only on track, but they have a gun off when they're out of the car, because they wear these cooling vests, no T-shirts, guns out."
