Liam Lawson has praised the Racing Bulls team for “just surviving” en route to a large points haul at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Lawson started inside the top 10 but progressed forward throughout the race as various drivers faced reliability issues.

The New Zealander crossed the line in fifth place, matching his career-best result.

Racing Bulls' points haul was boosted by rookie Arvid Lindblad, who bagged sixth - his strongest finish in F1 to date.

Lawson stated Racing Bulls' ability to stay out of trouble en route to points is not solely tied to Monaco.

“I feel good,” Lawson told media including RacingNews365

“It's been a good start to the season, even weekends where we've started further away, or had difficulties.

“Seeing at the moment, as well, with the way that the races are going, quite a lot of people are retiring with issues, things like that.

“For us, we've just been surviving, especially [on Sunday in Monaco].”

Lawson almost didn't enter the grand prix as a problem in the build-up to the event forced his mechanics into a race against time to get the car on the grid.

The 24-year-old hailed the team for its ability to get the car into working conditions under such pressure.

“To put a car together literally two minutes before the green light, and have no issues in the race, and have a car that was competitive, was very, very cool,” he said.
