Liam Lawson braced for 'impossible' challenge after Racing Bulls disappointment

Liam Lawson feels overtaking in the Hungarian Grand Prix will be "basically impossible" as he seeks to overcome his qualifying letdown. 

Despite feeling the car had enough pace in it to secure a Q3 berth, Lawson was eliminated in 11th, 0.126s away from advancing, with team-mate Arvid Lindblad going on to take ninth, having held an advantage through the weekend. 

Pointing out aspects of his lap which he felt had let him down, Lawson indicated that a mistake on his first Q2 lap had had consequences for him as he detailed the tough challenge he faces in the grand prix. 

"I just drove really badly in Q2; it is a shame as the car has been very, very good this weekend," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.

"I had a lock-up in the first half of Q2 and lost the reference for the last lap, which doesn't help, but in general, it was just a really bad lap, so it is not surprising, but a shame because we've had quite a good car.

"We were really solid in FP3, and I'm not sure, but maybe the track temperatures came down a little bit. 

"Maybe we went a bit too slow on our out-laps, but the fronts were terrible at the start of the lap, and it was pretty poorly driven through the rest of the lap anyway, so that is something to review.

"We had a good long run, so hopefully we have a fast race car, but it is basically impossible to overtake, so it is going to be tough."
