Lewis Hamilton under investigation after Austrian GP practice error

Lewis Hamilton will be investigated after the second free practice session at the Austrian Grand Prix for potentially impeding Kimi Antonelli.

At Turn 4 of the Red Bull Ring during FP2, the Ferrari driver drifted over to the racing line whilst on a slow lap, meaning the young Italian had to take to the outside of the run-off area to avoid the seven-time F1 drivers' champion.

Antonelli was quickly on team radio to criticise, saying: "Mate, what is going on with these people? Honestly."

Hamilton likewise communicated with the Scuderia that he could not see the driver who inherited his Mercedes seat, reporting: "I couldn't see Antonelli at all..."

The British driver was also seen holding his hand up to apologise as he passed the W16 through the exit of the corner.

As per the official summons document, Hamilton is being looked at for "alleged breach of Article 37.5 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations - alleged unnecessary impeding".

It is not the first time recently Hamilton has been involved in impending incidents, with communication with new race engineer Riccardo Adami sometimes not being as effective as it could be.

However, the 40-year-old's message suggests he is at fault for the latest indiscretion, which is still an alleged case at this stage. It has not yet been confirmed when Hamilton and Antonelli will visit the officials.
