Lewis Hamilton eyes victory in the Mexico City Grand Prix after securing third on the grid, a position he views as the "perfect spot".
The driver on pole rarely wins at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez due to the remarkable length of the run into the first corner, with third typically being a favourable position.
Hamilton secured the front of the second row after a strong final lap in qualifying, although was unable to beat Lando Norris or Charles Leclerc who completed the front row.
Nevertheless, claiming third represented Hamilton's best grand prix qualifying performance but also the first time all season that himself and Leclerc have featured in the top three together.
"I'm really, really happy," said Hamilton. "I'm honoured to be up here with Charles and with Lando. These guys have been so quick all year, and it's an amazing feeling.
"This is the first time we've both been up in the top three in qualifying this year, and the team truly deserve it. So we're just working as hard as we can.
"Super grateful to everyone in the team for continuing to push and not give up and continue. We've not really moved the car forward necessarily in development, but we've extracted more from it.
"Our process is better this weekend and and that's what you're seeing."
Ferrari found great speed in the closing minutes of qualifying as the track started to cool, and featured towards the top in all sessions across the weekend so far.
Asked if his race pace is strong, Hamilton replied: "Well, it's hard to obviously beat these two guys today, but I'm in P3, it's kind of the perfect spot, actually, at this track.
"So I'm hoping I can make the most of that at the start. I think our race pace is not too bad."
