Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is expecting to be stripped of his British Grand Prix podium, following an alleged yellow flag infringement.

Hamilton endured a chaotic home race at Silverstone which saw him handed an early five-second time penalty, due to a false start.

Serving the punishment at his first pit stop dropped the seven-time world champion from third to sixth, putting a major doubt on his podium chances.

However, some luck went Hamilton's way, as both Mercedes encountered issues which resulted in additional pit stops, while he overtook Max Verstappen.

It promoted Hamilton into second, although he fell back to third behind Russell after deciding to pit under a late safety car following a shock crash for Red Bull's star driver.

Unfortunately, the race did not resume, leaving the 41-year-old to settle for third. He expects to be stripped of this, with him being under investigation for a yellow flag infringement.

Speaking after the race, Hamilton revealed that he did not see the yellow flags when Verstappen crashed, and is expecting to lose his home rostrum.

"Congrats to Charles," Hamilton told Sky F1. "He did a great job. All the magic I had on Friday just disappeared through the weekend.

"I’m probably going to get a penalty. The FIA often have to react... I went through a yellow flag and didn’t see it.

"So a jump start, yellow flag [infringement]. When it rains it pours."
