Legendary Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker has died at the age of 97. He was a stalwart of the sport for decades, commentating full-time for 23 years between 1978 and 2001.
Formula 1 issued a statement regarding the untimely passing, stating Walker will forever be a part of the sport's history.
"We are immensely sad to hear that Murray Walker has passed away," read a statement. "His passion and love of the sport inspired millions of fans around the world. He will forever be a part of our history, and will be dearly missed."
Walker's first Grand Prix commentary came at Silverstone in 1949. He became well-known for his enthusiasm and passion towards F1, calling some of the most memorable moments in Formula 1 history.
Current F1 pundit Martin Brundle was Walker's final co-commentator and he was one of the first people to pay tribute to the F1 icon.
