Lando Norris insists he is not thinking about his new status as the F1 drivers' championship leader, and that he is better at "forgetting" quickly.
Norris reclaimed the lead of the drivers' standings for the first time since Saudi Arabia with a dominant win in Mexico last time out, which coupled with Oscar Piastri's fifth place, meant Norris retook the lead by a single point.
He was 34 points behind Piastri just six races ago after the Dutch GP retirement, but the Briton has been on a strong run of form since, coinciding with Piastri's wobble.
Including the two Sprints, there are 116 points left up for grabs in 2025, with Max Verstappen just 36 behind Norris, having also carved a huge number of points out of the McLaren pair since Italy.
However, Norris insists that his new status as championship leader changes nothing for him, as he seeks a maiden drivers' title.
"I mean, it's not something I think about, but I get reminded of it because my friends or people talk about it and bring it up," Norris told media, including RacingNews365.
"It is still a cool thought, thinking about that I'm fighting for a world championship in Formula 1 and being in the position to do that is part of my dream to try and win races, so it is incredible.
"But I don't think in terms of races, and achieving the actual dream of being a champion, it doesn't feel like any difference, nothing is completed, and nothing is done.
"There are still 116 points available, so it doesn't mean anything, so for the time being, it is a nice thought to look at and think about, but it is nice to be there.
"I still need to go and try and win this weekend, and win next weekend and the final race."
"I smiled for a day, and then moved on. It felt good in the moment, but by the time I get on my flight home, I try and forget as many things as I can.
"I review everything, go to the team and spend my days there reviewing and preparing for this weekend, but it is always nice to look back on things, but it doesn't change anything in terms of my processes.
"I take on board what was good, understand why it was good, but also, on the contrary, what I still did not good well enough and what I could improve on, and that's it.
"With the good times, it doesn't influence my feelings or my approach, and of course, in the past, some of the bad things always felt more painful than feeling good. I'm quite good, and one of my things I like is almost forgetting about it as quickly as possible and enjoying some days off and going again."
