Lando Norris issued a clear apology to Oscar Piastri following the pair's shock clash in the Canadian Grand Prix, causing the Briton to retire.
Norris started in seventh at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but made gentle progress through the lead places, before settling behind Piastri in fifth.
As the race entered its final laps, Norris attempted to overtake his team-mate, starting with a divebomb at the tight hairpin.
It triggered a drag race between the McLarens, before Norris settled behind Piastri through the chicane. However, he had an excellent exit, allowing him to attempt a sweep around the outside along the start/finish straight.
Unfortunately, Norris went for a move where there was no room, causing a collision with Piastri which sent the 25-year-old into the wall by the start/finish line and out of the race.
He immediately apologised and accepted full blame over the radio, which he made clear again after the race.
"No one to blame but myself," Norris told Sky Sports F1. "So I apologise to the whole team and to Oscar as well for, yeah, for attempting something probably a bit too silly. So yeah, glad I didn't ruin his race."
When pointed out that the feared clash had at least finally happened, Norris responded: "Yeah, but this was just more silly. This wasn't even like, yeah, that's racing. It was just, yeah, silly, from my part."
