Lando Norris has stated that “drivers talk too much” after Fernando Alonso questioned the development pace of rival F1 teams.
The new technical regulations introduced this year have seen a significant development push from most outfits on the grid as they bid to not lose ground to the competition.
Aston Martin, who has endured a troubled start to the year, has yet to implement a significant upgrade to its AMR26 and has slipped to the rear of the pecking order.
As it targets one singular major modification to its car around the summer break, other teams are drip-feeding updates weekend-to-weekend - a strategy that was questioned by Fernando Alonso, who cited the budget cap restraints.
The comment issued a response from Norris, insisting drivers are not in the loop when it comes to the finances of the teams.
"I think the drivers talk too much,” Norris told media including RacingNews365.
“They don't have a Scooby-Doo. They're not the accountants. They don't really know how it works.”
Norris added that every team has a different strategy when it comes to how they develop their cars, making comments about other squads largely irrelevant.
“I'm not surprised at all,” he said. “I think it depends how quickly you're onto things.
“It depends how much time you spend per item, time in the wind tunnel, all these little things.
“It's also efficiency of how you get parts made and get parts done.
“So I don't think people can talk about other teams. Every team is doing better than the other team and you have to outperform them in every way possible."
