Lando Norris has stated he “can't stop laughing” after being subject to heavy booing at the Mexican Grand Prix.
Norris dominated the 71-lap race and crossed the line over 30 seconds in front of second-placed Charles Leclerc, taking his 10th career win and the leading spot in the drivers' championship.
However, the McLaren driver was met with a chorus of boos after stepping out of the car from the fans in the stadium section of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez.
Norris highlighted that he was unsure why he was faced with such hostility.
“I don't know why, to be honest,” Norris told media including RacingNews365.
“People can do what they want, honestly. They have the right to do it if they want to do it. So I think that's sport sometimes.”
The boos were particularly prominent when Norris was giving his post-race interview with James Hinchcliffe, and again when he was presented on the podium.
The 25-year-old, however, is able to see the funny side of the situation.
“I don't know why I can't stop laughing when I get booed,” he said. “I think it makes it more entertaining for me.
“They can keep doing it if they want. Of course, you don't want it.
“I prefer if people cheer for me. But I don't know. Like I said, I just concentrate on doing my things.
“It was the same in, what, Monza and a few other places. So, yeah. I don't know why. I just can't stop laughing. If they want to continue, they can.”
