Lance Stroll has triggered an early safety car in the Chinese Grand Prix, following the latest issue for an Aston Martin car.
Stroll pulled off the circuit at the first corner at the start of the 10th lap, resulting in an immediate safety car due to the Canadian's car needing to be recovered.
It opened an opportunity for those who started on medium tyres to pit, which included the top four of Kimi Antonelli, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
The retirement of Stroll reduced the field to just 17 cars, due to Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Gabriel Bortoleto and Alex Albon all failing to start due to various issues.
For McLaren it marked the first time both of its cars had failed to start a grand prix since the 2005 United States GP.
