Lance Stroll has escaped with a warning from the stewards at the Spanish Grand Prix following his failure to get weighed immediately after qualifying at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya.
The Aston Martin was subsequently withdrawn from the event on medical advice, but remained at risk of punishment for his failure to follow the race director's instructions upon his Q2 elimination.
The reason for Stroll not taking part in the race is as understood by the Silverstone squad to be a consequence of the pre-season wrist and hand injury he suffered in 2023.
The team confirmed he has been in pain for the past six weeks and will now undergo a further procedure.
He was due to start P14, and as his decision to pull out was announced before the official grid was confirmed, all drivers who qualified behind him will move up one slot.
Yuki Tsunoda, who would have started P19 and last, had the rear wing on the back of his Red Bull changed and will start from the pit lane. Therefore, there will be only 18 cars on the grid.
Because Stroll was withdrawn after qualifying, Aston Martin is not permitted to run a replacement driver in his car.
And had he been awarded a penalty, he would have served it at the next race in which he competes. That is still believed to be the next round, the Canadian Grand Prix.
However, it is not yet known for certain if the 26-year-old will be racing in Montreal in two weeks' time. If he cannot, reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will likely step in, although Stoffel Vandoorne is also an option.
