Krack warns F1 and FIA with new teams process

The process for selecting new teams is currently ongoing, but some Team Principals have been voiced their opinions on the matter.

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack believes Formula 1 and the FIA must be "careful" during the selection process for new teams. The selection process is currently ongoing for new teams, with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem confirming that a decision will be made in the next "four to six weeks" prior to the summer break in July. Five teams are understood to be under consideration from the governing body, with two new outfits set to join the 10 teams. The prospect of new teams has enraged some of the current ones, with Toto Wolff saying that any entries must show an "accretive" element . This was echoed by Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur, who said that it is "absolutely not an argument" for a team to join based on nationality .

Krack: Team should not come and go

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack has pointed towards another factor when discussing with media, including RacingNews365 : "We know there was this process, we know that F1 is attractive, and that is also why there are so many applicants. "Where F1 is also pointing out is the last time we had teams join [the grid], now they are all gone. "I think one of the main points is that they do not want teams coming and going. That is why there has to be a careful, careful process. "We are not really involved in it, so we have to take it as it comes." Prior to Haas, F1 welcomed multiple new teams to the grid during the 2010 season with Lotus, Virgin Racing, and Hispania Racing. Neither team survived past 2016, with Hispania lasting until 2012 and Lotus changing names to 'Caterham' before leaving at the end of the 2014 season. Virgin Racing went through various ownerships between 2011 and 2014, before leaving the championship as 'Manor' at the end of 2016. As a result the FIA strengthened the diligence process for new teams joining F1, which led to Haas joining in 2016.
