Kimi Antonelli has expressed a desire to partner with Max Verstappen in an endurance race, believing he and the four-time F1 champion would make "a really cool pair".
To add a 'fun element' to his storied racing career, and given his lack of enjoyment with the current F1 regulations, Verstappen is to make his 24-hour debut later this year at the Nürburgring, following on from his exploits at the Nordschleife last season.
The four-time F1 champion will race for his Verstappen Racing outfit in a Mercedes-AMG GT3, alongside a talented line-up of Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer.
As a Mercedes F1 driver, and due to his father Marco's exploits in the GT racing scene, Antonelli feels he and Verstappen should join forces.
After competing in the Italian Superturismo Championship in the 1990s and other GT3 events over the years, Marco Antonelli is the owner and team principal of AKM Motorsport, which has competed in a wide range of sports car series.
As for Kimi partnering Verstappen in the future, he said: "That will be super cool. I would love to do an endurance with Max. That would be pretty awesome.
"It's cool because we both have a passion for GTs. Obviously, on my side, it's come from my dad with the GT team. Occasionally, I go and test when I can, and Max, as well, is really enjoying it.
"It's really cool for him to do the 24 hours at the Nürburgring. It will be a really cool event, and I'll definitely be watching it.
"It's something that in the future I would really like to do, to race with him in an endurance race. We will be a really cool pair, and it would be a really cool experience.
"But it's something that I've been considering as well. I've already asked to do a test at the Nordschleife, for example, because it's a track that I love.
"I would love to be able to try it in the real world as well."
