Jake Dennis addresses 'changed' Formula E approach in second title pursuit

Jake Dennis has addressed his 'changed' approach to Formula E as he looks to become just the second two-time champion in the series.

The Andretti driver enters today’s second round in Mexico City as the early championship leader, following an impressive victory in last December’s season opener in São Paulo.

Since becoming world champion in 2023—the first season of Gen3—Dennis has failed to truly feature at the sharp end of the title battle, with Andretti struggling for consistency.

However, from pre-season testing in Valencia, the Briton has looked supremely calm and relaxed, even more so than an individual who already had a laid-back approach.

Crucially, his customer Porsche package worked in both qualifying and the race in Brazil, with his victory having been claimed from pole position.

An Andretti package performing strongly across an entire weekend has been a rarity, but something appears to have clicked. To add to his perfect start, Dennis topped first practice in Mexico City and is looking to extend his lead in the drivers’ championship.

Discussing his calm and relaxed approach, Dennis told RacingNews365: "I don’t know. From my side, I feel like I’m always the same type of guy.

"I think when the car is good, I’m obviously a little bit happier than when the car is bad, but, yeah, I generally just try to keep a level-headed approach and do the job when the opportunity is there.

"I feel like I’m always pretty relaxed outside of the car, whether I’m fighting for the championship or fighting for P5 or whatever, so I try not to let my emotions get too involved.

"And, yeah, I think that’s changed a little bit since I became champion. Once I won that, I kind of had a chip off my shoulder and didn’t feel like I had as much to prove, which is natural after becoming champion. But I mean, I’m still as motivated as ever to try and win it again.

"And it’d be great to win it in the first year of the Gen3 generation—and obviously the final year as well."
