Alpine has now confirmed that it will be taking on a supply of Mercedes power units in 2026, reverting from the works team status it had enjoyed.
The decision to close the F1 project at Viry has been met with criticism by workers there, although a small team will remain committed to working on F1 matters, but Renault is set to be out from the end of next season.
It could be argued that this finally provides the team with the one thing it has been lacking in recent years, a clear plan.
