Hungarian Grand Prix 2023 The latest F1 news about the 2023 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix

The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on 23 July 2023. The Hungaroring will be the venue for the race near the capital city of Budapest.

Round 11: Dominance in Hungary

The F1 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend took place from 20 to 23 July at the Hungaroring. This was the second-to-last race before the summer break.

Qualifying at the Hungaroring

Qualifying at the Hungaroring involved testing a new qualifying format. This required drivers to drive on hard tyre in Q1, medium tyre in Q2 and soft tyre in Q3. Some surprising things happened, as George Russell in his Mercedes did not get beyond P18 and did not see Q2. Also, Sergio Perez finally achieved Q3 again, but all was also said with that. The Mexican only reached P9. The surprising pole position was for Lewis Hamilton who managed to beat Max Verstappen by 0.003 seconds! Lando Norris grabbed third position just 0.082 from Verstappen.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023

With Hamilton in pole position, much was expected from the start, but after just 500 metres Max Verstappen was already in the lead. The Mercedes driver soon dropped back to fourth, as both McLarens were also too fast for him. Alfa Romeo driver Guanyu Zhou started in position five after his best qualifying ever, but soon dropped back to the back of the field. He also tapped Daniel Ricciardo's car, bringing in a time penalty as well as two penalty points on his super licence.

Daniel Ricciardo, who was back on the grid for the first time since the start of the 2023 Formula 1 season, was fortunately able to resume his race after Zhou's tap. He drove a good race and could be satisfied with 13th place. With this, the Australian finished two places ahead of his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

Both Alpines did not come out of the crash caused by Zhou unscathed. Ocon and Gasly were both allowed to put a DNF after their names, leaving Alpine with zero points going home.

Verstappen dominated the Hungarian Grand Prix, edging out number two, Lando Norris, by 33 seconds. Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez managed to drive from ninth to third and completes the podium.
