Hulkenberg praises Haas: We haven't missed big opportunities

The German commends their recent performances on track despite a lack of improvement in the Constructors' Championship.

Nico Hulkenberg has praised the performance from Haas so far this season, despite the team sitting on the same points as Williams in the Constructors' standings. The German has outscored his teammate by seven points since making his full-time return to Formula 1, with both him and Kevin Magnussen scoring at two races a piece. Haas is looking to improve on their finishing position of eighth last year in the Constructors' having amassed 37 points, much of which were scored in the first half of the 2022 season. Hulkenberg described his feelings about the season when speaking to media, including RacingNews365 : "As a whole I look back positives, I think we've not really missed any big opportunities. "Whenever there was a result available, we've kind of managed to extract it to get the points that were available. "Obviously we feel like we don't have enough points, we're not happy with how competitive we are on Sunday's. So that's definitely the biggest issue and biggest disappointment."

Hulkenberg describes Haas problems

Haas have excelled in qualifying throughout much of the season, their highest being fourth with Magnussen at the Miami Grand Prix who converted it into tenth in the race. This was repeated by Hulkenberg during the Austrian GP Sprint Shootout, but he also dropped back to sixth behind both Aston Martin's. Hulkenberg has described the main reason why they lose positions over the course of a race: "We haven't really set the car up for qualifying or the race, we've set it up for what [we think] is optimal. That characteristic is just not so good. "That's why in the long stints you see that coming out and then we obviously over-stress the tyre. On top of that, I think in traffic we we suffer more, probably more than the other cars it feels. So that makes it double as hard. "In Qualifying you always have new tyres, which helps with the deficits that we have and then we are competitive. But in the long stints there are other issues."
