Hamilton hoping for 'super-tight' battle with Verstappen and Alonso

After sharing an "iconic" podium together at the Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton hopes to see a more closely-fought duel play out between himself and fellow World Champions Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso in the future.

Lewis Hamilton hopes to see a "super-tight" Formula 1 battle play out between himself, Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso in the future. The three World Champion drivers shared the podium at the Canadian Grand Prix, with Verstappen taking another dominant win while Alonso resisted pressure from Hamilton to claim second. Hamilton has experience of fighting with both Verstappen and Alonso on the track; the Briton was involved in a famously tense duel for the title with Verstappen in 2021, while he shared a fierce intra-team rivalry with Alonso during their brief stint as teammates at McLaren in 2007. Despite this, Hamilton has spoken of the respect shared between the three and voiced his hopes for a "sick" future championship battle amongst them.

Hamilton: A privilege to fight with Verstappen and Alonso

"It's a privilege to be up here fighting these two who've done incredible in their careers," Hamilton told media, including RacingNews365.com , after the race in Montreal. "This is quite an iconic top three. I don't know if there's been a top three like this ever before. I don't believe there has. "But hopefully there'll be more. As Fernando said, there's a lot of respect between us as we were able to race so closely and trust in one another. "I'm really hoping at some stage we have more of a level playing field in our cars, and then we'll have a much more exciting race, I think, in the future. "To have all three of us in a super-tight battle would be sick."
