Hamilton addresses Tsunoda incident after qualifying pain

The Mercedes driver failed to advance through to Q3 at Zandvoort and feels Yuki Tsunoda was not to blame.

Lewis Hamilton has rejected suggestions that Yuki Tsunoda impeding him cost him a place in Q3 during Dutch Grand Prix qualifying. Rainfall across the day at Zandvoort led to difficult conditions in qualifying, with drivers initially tackling the session on Intermediates before a gradual switch to slicks by the end. The seven-time F1 champion fell at the second stage having set his final lap on ageing Intermediates in the drying conditions one lap earlier than his rivals, allowing others with fresher tyres to capitalise on track evolution. But AlphaTauri driver Tsunoda allegedly blocked the Hamilton's Mercedes at Turn 13 - for which Tsunoda has been summoned by the race stewards. "A few of the others got in the way on previous laps, Tsunoda was in the way a little bit, but he didn't make me lose any time," Hamilton told media including RacingNews365.

Progress forward?

Addressing his failure to reach the top 10 for the second time this season, Hamilton told Sky Sports F1: "I did two fast laps at the end and the tyres overheated so I could not improve on the last lap. "We have the same car as in qualifying which wasn't very good, so hopefully when the car is a bit heavier [with fuel], maybe we will be able to progress forward. "It is not an easy track to overtake on, but I will give it my best [in the race]."
