George Russell nearly blocked the Sao Paulo Grand Prix pit-lane after spinning following a crucial pit-stop.
With the field starting on the intermediate tyres in the damp conditions at Interlagos, the track started to dry quickly, with the fast-starting but quickly dropping-down-the-order Lewis Hamilton eager to stop for dry tyres.
Hamilton and Carlos Sainz triggered the charge for red-marked soft tyres on Lap 15, with the field coming in at the end of the next lap, with second-placed Lando Norris, third-placed Russell, fourth-placed Isack Hadjar and fifth-placed Liam Lawson all following suit.
However, when exiting the pits on his soft tyres, Russell spun and lost control and was forced to drive the wrong way briefly to turn around, as the likes of Hadjar, Lawson, and Oscar Piastri filtered through.
It meant Russell fell to eighth once the order had shaken out.
Team-mate Kimi Antonelli, who was leading the race, did not stop until next time by, but his hard-earned lead over Norris was eradicated, with the McLaren immediately on the back of the Mercedes, who then spun from the lead at Turn 1, as he reported a potential issue.
