George Russell and Arvid Lindblad will be investigated by the FIA following the conclusion of FP2 at the Australian Grand Prix.
The pair of Britons collided at the start of the second hour of running in Melbourne when the Racing Bulls rookie ran over the front wing of the Mercedes driver.
Russell had poked out the front of his W17, hoping to pull into the fast lane at Albert Park, but Lindblad continued moving forward, which is when contact was made.
However, as the 5-time grand prix winner pushed in, he is likely the focus of the investigation by the motorsport governing body.
Russell finished seventh in the first FP1 of the season, whilst Lindbald impressed to put his VCARB 03 in fifth; only slower than the two Ferraris and Red Bulls.
Franco Colapinto will also be investigated for "driving unnecessarily slowly" on the racing line down the pit straight.
Lewis Hamilton had to take evasive action to prevent hitting the Alpine from behind at high speed.
