Pierre Gasly has made it clear that he wants Alpine to have the "fastest package" possible, ahead of its speculated future as a customer team.

It is believed that power unit supplier Renault is set to scrap its 2026 power unit project, which would leave Alpine needing another engine manufacturer for when the power unit new regulations are introduced.

Alpine has held talks with Mercedes over a potential deal, with the Silver Arrows being open to the possibility of powering the Enstone-based team.

Whether Alpine is a factory team or a customer team does not bother Gasly, who recognises that the French outfit has very good options available.

Ultimately, the 2020 Italian Grand Prix winner wants the power unit that will make Alpine as quick as possible.

"Our view is that we have only good options available," Gasly told media including RacingNews365

"So on my side, I just want to have the fastest package that will be available to us."

Renault staff shock

According to reports, staff in Renault's Viry-Chatillon engine base have been left in shock at the speculation that the power unit project could be ending.

Gasly has visited the base several times and is close to those who work there, leading him to highlight his gratefulness for its efforts.

"Yeah, obviously I'm close to them, I'm working with them every single weekend," added Gasly. "I'm going to Viry during the year so I know how hard everyone's working.

"I obviously have a soft spot for them and all these people that worked and dedicated their lives to the performance of of this Formula 1 team, not only this year, but in the past few years.

"Big thanks for their contribution and obviously I'm sure I'm going to see them before the end of the year. I just want to be thankful for their contribution to our performance."
