Pierre Gasly has suggested the F1 drivers could take part in a new tournament throughout the upcoming season.

The drivers are known to share a widespread interest in padel and often play in groups as they travel and navigate the F1 calendar.

The game forms another method of exercise for the drivers to help them keep fit as they train for the demands of driving an F1 car.

While it has been mostly fun and games so far, Gasly has suggested it could become more competitive this year.

“We all agree that we should organise a padel tournament between us [drivers],” Gasly told Mail Sport

“It could happen this year. We love playing.

“We play together often and it gets quite competitive, which is pretty funny.

“There’s no standout player though I’m told the Spaniards are pretty good but I’ve not played against Carlos [Sainz] and Fernando [Alonso] yet.”

Gasly still obsessed by F1

When asked who he believes would emerge victorious in the padel contest, Gasly asserted: “Myself!”

Gasly is the co-owner of a padel project called 10Padel and also has a stake in FC Versailles, a French football team.

Despite his various plans away from F1, Gasly asserted motorsport remains his primary focus.

“F1 is still my obsession,” he said.

“Even though I have all these other things going on, it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that I still fall asleep and wake up thinking about F1.

“I train every single day and since I was a kid, I’ve always had that curiosity and that will to wake up every day, find ways to improve myself and do better than I was the day before.

“We’re all very talented in F1 but ultimately the difference is in the small details.”
