Logan Sargeant's huge accident early in Dutch Grand Prix Free Practice 3 wiped out most of the running for the F1 field at Zandvoort.
In wet conditions, and with some drivers yet to take the take, Sargeant crashed the Williams heavily at Turn 4, destroying his FW46.
His place in qualifying is in doubt given the damage and a fire that broke out at the rear of the wreckage.
Fernando Alonso topped the times but the session was delayed for over 40 minutes of the 60-minute run time as marshals undertook barrier repairs.
The session resumed with three minutes on the clock as drivers jockeyed for position out of the pits with Max Verstappen drawing the attention of the stewards with a black and white flag for overtaking in the pit-exit and crossing the white line.
In the flurry of late laps, Kevin Magnussen initially jumped to the head of the times before Pierre Gasly leap-frogged him.
The likes of Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc did not get a clean lap as Gasly's 1:20.311 topped the disrupted session.
Hamilton was 15th, Leclerc 16th and Verstappen 17th.
