Lando Norris has been left to rue "too many mistakes" on his final lap of qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite taking third on the grid. McLaren entered the weekend unsure of whether its recent major upgrade package would translate its podium-winning form from Silverstone to the low-to-medium-speed configuration of the Hungaroring but will begin Sunday's race with a second-row lockout. Briton Norris was stalking initial table-topper Max Verstappen in Q3 before both were usurped by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton at the death. "I am disappointed," said Norris, who finished 0.085secs down on Hamilton. "If you are within a tenth of pole, it feels like you should be on pole if you put the lap together. "As an overall picture, I am happy, the team did a good job - a good weekend so far. "But as a driver, I am not the happiest. I feel like I made too many mistakes and that cost me."
Frustrating
On where he felt he had missed out on his final effort, Norris explained: "There are always little things. "Just putting the lap together... it wasn't the cleanest, there is always an element of risk involved when trying to push a little bit more. "I don't know how much it was between me and P1 but there was definitely a tenth in it. "Frustrating but P3 is a good position, so still a good day."
