Fred Vasseur is "too weak" to succeed as Ferrari team principal and is "not a dictator", believes Bernie Ecclestone.
Vasseur's position at the Scuderia was called into question earlier in the year, when reports linking Christian Horner to the team surfaced, but drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc gave their emphatic backing to Vasseur, who has led Ferrari since 2023.
The Frenchman also received strong backing from Ferrari chairman John Elkann, but former F1 chief Ecclestone believes Vasseur lacks the ruthlessness required to be successful as Ferrari team principal.
"The problem is, Ferrari needs a dictator at the top to be successful," he told Sky.De.
"There is not Italian spoken, but Ferrara. Everyone in Italy talks there and interferes in what is right and what is wrong. [Fred Vasseur] "is too weak and "not a dictator".
Then, turning his attention to Hamilton, Ecclestone believes the big-money move from Mercedes was nothing more than a "financial marketing project."
"He wanted to become world champion there and is now surprised that he can't make it," he added.
"Hamilton is one of the best of the last ten years, but not the best".
The 95-year-old described Hamilton's move as a "financial marketing project" and "believes that he will do more with fashion in the future."
