An 18-year-old driver has died at the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine round at Spa-Francorchamps.
MP Motorsport driver Dilano van 't Hoff was involved in a collision with Adam Fitzgerald in race two on Saturday [July 1] morning.
The race was held in wet conditions, with the incident coming at the exit of Raidillon and the beginning of the Kemmel Straight.
Spa's safety record has been brought into question in recent years after the tragedy that claimed Anthoine Hubert's life in F2 in 2019 at the same section of track, with numerous similar crashes at Eau Rouge and Radillon since leading to extensive change at the top of the hill.
Confirming van 't Hoff's death, a FRECA statement read: "Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine sadly announces the death of MP Motorsport driver Dilano Van ‘T Hoff.
"The incident happened during Spa-Francorchamps race 2.
"We want to express our sincere condolences to the family, team and friends.
"Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps and SRO Motorsports Group join Alpine and ACI in expressing their sincerest condolences to the driver’s family, team and friends."
