Jean-Eric Vergne has won the the first Rome ePrix, having been embroiled in a race long battle with Audi's Lucas Di Grassi.
However, a late race technical issue slowed Di Grassi and, as the Brazilian slowed, polesitter Stoffel Vandoorne crashed his Mercedes. The collision also caused teammate Nyck de Vries to be caught up in the melee, resulting in a Safety Car.
The race ended under Safety Car conditions, with Vergne as the winner of the chaotic race. The second Rome ePrix of the weekend will follow on Sunday.
